With my first job being a crewmate at Trader Joe's, I got to see firsthand which products sold and which didn't. This may come as a shock, but without a doubt, one of their most popular items are actually their reusable bags. They have an assortment of different tote bags and grocery bags with tons of fun prints to go along with them.
I was thinking, "How could Trader Joe's capitalize on the craze over these bags?" Then it hit me. Hydro Flasks are one of the highest-selling products these days, whether it's to add to someone's aesthetic or actually stay hydrated, with their own special editions always selling out rapidly. I decided to create this project to explore the potential outcomes of a collaboration between the two companies.
I started by looking at some inspiration through the Trader Joe's bag designs.
After the initial research and making a plan of which bags I would use as inspiration, I started to vector the bags' prints into Illustrator files following their illustration styles as close as I was able to. I also made a few other options that follow Trader Joe's signature hibiscus flower print.
The second decision I had to research was which company would have the dominant branding in this deal. I looked into other special edition Hydro Flask releases and found that they all kept the traditional Hydro Flask logo within the designs, as well as some options having the collaborator's logo on the other side of the bottle. I decided to make two versions of each bottle; One with Trader Joe's branding and one with Hydro Flask branding.
